This economic environment will add impetus to the Democrats’ policy aggressiveness and traditional Republicans will be on the defensive. However, if our analysis is correct, we expect the revenue surge to be a one-time effect that will be reversed during 2014, at which point the deficit figures will begin to deteriorate once again. Hence, the next mid-term election may represent an opportunity for the Republican Party.
