We are big fans of using episode analysis in order to identify past economic environments that are either similar or a mirror image of the environment we foresee. Our implicit assumption is that the environment represents the response to the economic shocks and the economic policy being pursued by the various administrations. If the responses are stable across time, one can use the past to forecast the future.
