In recent days we have seen the U.S. dollar rise to a 10-year high against an index of major currencies. Last year alone, the dollar appreciated 15%. The currency swings are further complicated by the end of the commodity boom that has many global banks attempting to weaken their currencies to counter the signs of falling inflation and softening growth expectations. All of these factors have investors wondering whether we are entering a new era of currency swings.
