The debate over the stagnation and the savings glut hypothesis misses one very important point: these two hypotheses can be accommodated into a broader balance sheet repair hypothesis. In the context of the broader view, the savings glut and stagnation hypothesis are complementary and provide a much more parsimonious explanation of the current environment.
