We believe that the economic slump led to a shrinking economic pie, and that had several effects. An obvious one is the dissatisfaction with the government. In addition, we believe that the slowdown left redistribution as the easiest way that different interest groups could increase their wellbeing. The dissatisfaction was manifested in several ways, such as a focus on income inequality and immigration.
