Critics argue that President Trump has weaponized the US trade policy while defenders point out that it takes two to tango. The US counterparties are not innocent. Irrespective of how one feels, the fact is that the administration has forced many nations to revisit their trade and tariff policies. The outcome is yet to be determined. In the short term the policy is affecting in a negative way many of the economies in the world. Simply put the global economy is slowing down. Looking at the global equity performance and the available economic data, it seems reasonable to conclude that the longer the trade dispute goes on the larger the negative impact on the global economy as a result yields tend to decline.
