Report Detail Summary

The Size Selector

December 11, 1998

The forecast for next quarter suggests that large-caps will outperform both mid- and small-cap stocks. Notice that in Table 1, the estimated probability of large-caps outperforming small-caps during first quarter 1999 is 52.4%. Looking at the data we expect the sector performance to be positively related to size during the first quarter. By the second quarter, the size effect is expected to reverse. The result is consistent with our forecast that value will gain relative to growth. That is, we see small caps surging by mid-year. However, between now and then, large caps will outperform.
