Euroland: Make Hay While the Sun Shines

Euroland is a reality. The European Union has officially embarked on its plan to launch a common currency next year. At a special summit meeting in Brussels, EU leaders selected the 11-founding member-nations for economic and monetary union (EMU). The EU commission also announced conversion rates of member-nation currencies into the euro. We have said in the past that the organization of a nations monetary system determines its inflation potential and its adjustment process to a new equilibrium. Euroland will be no different. By understanding the inflation potential and adjustment process, a portfolio manger can develop insights that will enhance performance.
