Fast Track Heresies

Explaining the AFL-CIOs opposition to granting the President "fast-track" trading authority, a union official recently commented: "The fast track brought us NAFTA - and look where that got us. The fast-track NAFTA deal with Mexico and Canada in 1993 is a perfect example of what happens when we rush into agreements that dont take into consideration the concerns of workers and consumers. Ever since the NAFTA deal was struck 420,000 Americans lost jobs as corporations shifted production to Mexico and Canada, and employers are using the threat of plant closures to drive wages down."
