Inflation, Deflation and the Price Rule

October 08, 1997

Compare today's economy with the economic environment of the 70's, and its plain to see we've made some real progress. Not only do we have lower marginal tax rates, stronger growth and more focused fiscal awareness, we have significantly lower underlying inflation. Increases in the general price level have declined from double digit rates to a rate of around 2%, and should be considered one of the triumphs of U.S. economic policy.
