The Fourth Quarter Outlook

The tragic destruction of the World Trade Center is a major event that will have a profound impact on the way people approach every-day life. Given the uniqueness of the event, it’s next to impossible to find an equivalent parallel in our history. This leaves analysts, be they technical, fundamental or quantitative, who always look for common traits in history to explain present events, in uncharted waters. The use of historical incident, while useful in the past may or may not be quite so useful now. The reason is that we do not know how well any past incident will conform to the current experience.
