State and Local Budgets, Automatic Stabalizers and Politicians' Remorse

If the state and local officials choose to raise taxes and maintain the state spending levels, the U.S. economy will suffer. Growth and the recovery will be weaker than usual. In due course the state with the largest increase in tax rates will under perform the national economy and voter discontent will lead to another tax revolt that will push for a flatter tax rate as well as setting limits on state spending.
