Will the Meltdown lead to Contagion?

While we are not in the recession camp, a discussion of the possibility of a recession has some merits. At the very least it forces us to focus on the conditions that if correctly implemented could insure that no long term harm comes to the economy from the current subprime meltdown. On the other hand, a policy mistake could trigger a protracted recession.
