Since the index includes information on each of these economies at a point in time, (e.g. June 30th, 2007) for the most recent survey, it provides us all with a snapshot of the world economy where all the relevant variables are put on the same footing. Also, by looking at the changes from year to year, one can get a sense of the direction of policies in a country, region and/or the world.
