In his recent speech campaigning on behalf of majority leader Harry Reid, the president made the claim, popular with members of his administration, that he inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression. Whether that is true or not depends on the indicator used to define the economy. The president indicated the loss of employment as evidence substantiating his statement.
