Report Detail Summary

The Political Economy in Perspective

August 30, 2010

The midterm elections are fast approaching. In a little over 60 days we will find out whether we will stay or change the economic and political course off the nation. The midterm is a time to reassess the policy being enacted by the incumbents, in this case the Democrats. We know that there is a great deal of economic uncertainty, even the Fed Chairman has said as much. If the voters are in an anti-incumbent, anti-big government mood to the republicans can make significant gains in both the house and the Senate. It remains to be seen which way the electorate will break. While 60 days is an eternity in politics, add the traditional October surprise and anything is possible. Certain trends are emerging and they do not favor the incumbents. Several possible outcomes are possible, yet not all are equally likely.
