As China’s stature increases and the economy opens up, questions naturally begins to arise: is China important enough to run its own monetary policy? Is China an important enough player in the world stage? If the answers to these two questions are in the affirmative, then the next question is whether China’s policy will be good enough to provide price stability and transparency in such a way that its currency becomes a unit of account and medium of exchange in the rest of the world? Simply put, can China become a RCC?
