The Fed has announced that it will end QEII. However, we are skeptical about this. Fortunately there is a way to monitor this. The key indicator to watch here is the monetary base. If it keeps growing, then QE continues in some form. If the base flattens but does not decline, the Fed is, in effect, keeping its balance sheet unchanged.
