The recent events in the Middle East suggest that the region has begun a process where it will have to make choices between political and economic freedom. One added element which makes the forecast a bit more complicated is the religious component and the abundance of one particular item: petroleum. But if, as we believe, the people’s aspirations are ultimately for political and economic freedom, the experiences in the rest of the world may provide a roadmap.
